I am the most bindaas girl in Bollywood-Isha Koppikar

isha1koppikar

Has a change of spelling spelt a change in fortune too?

I wouldn’t know about that, but not everything in my life can be attributed to the change. I had signed all my films prior to it. I agree though, that there must be some positivity because of it.

You are the first Bollywood actor to have donned the judge’s hat at Miss Universe 2008! Does this take your career a step further?

I can’t say whether judging an international contest will help me careerwise. But personally, this has been
an enriching experience as I had never been to an international pageant.

In a earlier interview, you were quoted as saying, ‘I am the most bindaas girl in Bollywood, mujhe bhala koi kyon Miss Universe ke liye bulayega?’ Do you think only serious girls can be part of such events?

A lot of my fellow colleagues have climbed higher rungs in the success ladder. I know where I stand. I realised
that there were many factors taken into consideration when I was offered the judge’s hat. Those people had gone to my website and checked my profile.

Your LA manager Simone Shefield had mailed your details for the same…

That’s right. In fact, she thinks that I have one of the best faces after Aishwarya. She keeps telling me, ‘You must come to Hollywood.’ But I want to do something in my country first before I tread elsewhere.

But you must’ve had some plans when you hired her?

Simone came to me via Ambika Pillai. Ambika had suggested my name. A lot of people think I have a versatile face and that’s why I call myself bindaas. I believe that if there’s no guts, there’s no glory. My forthcoming films will see me playing myriad characters, like a gangster, a girl-next-door and a girl from a call centre, apart from doing comedy and dabbling in negative shades. In fact, I never write Eesha Koppikhar on my make-up
van but use the name of the character that I am playing, just to get under her skin. That’s why Aamir’s my favourite.

And what’s in store for you?

There are six releases lined up in the next four months. The films are Hello, Lalit Marathe’s Shabri, Hello Darling, Right Ya Wrong which is probably going to be renamed as Sahi Galat, Har Pal and Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi.

Seems like you are all set to bid adieu to the item number tag…

I’ve never really been designed to be an item girl. When I entered the industry, I never knew how to dance but it was seven years of Kathak and learning the Bollywood jhatkas that helped me reach here. And when I have some great tracks to shake a leg to in my own films, why should I groove to item beats for other films?
