After Kareena’s bikini scene in her size-zero figure in Yash Raj’s flop show, TASHAN, another actress who is hogging the headlines with her bikini act is the petite Minissha Lamba in Sanjay Gadhvi’s upcoming Eid release, KIDNAP.

Well, that is old news now and we are not here to rehash that. What we are here for is letting our readers know exactly how much effort and hard work Minissha had to put in to attain the look that is creating waves and has changed her from a serious actress to a bold hot sexy ’avatar’!

The preparations started way back in late March 2007 in Mauritius and when Minissha actually shot for the particular scene in September’07 she had dropped almost five kilos! Minissha worked without a break for six months at a stretch. Her routine alternated between intense weight training and cardiovascular exercises and yoga for an hour, seven days a week. She maintained a 47-kilo frame by going on a zero-carbohydrate diet. She started her day with a glass of milk, followed by cold salads for lunch and boiled vegetables for dinner. If she was still hungry she was allowed just a fruit to satisfy her hunger. All this effort got her stressed out and she had terrible mood swings during her hectic schedule.

Well, with all the hype and uniform praises for her stunning yet graceful bikini look from all quarters, it appears that her hard work has indeed paid off. It will be all more satisfying for Minissha if it translates into a massive initial for KIDNAP when it releases later this week!

Karisma has been looking for a comeback in movies

After a long gap of five years, Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor returns to showbiz as a judge of the reality dance show ’Nach Baliye 4’.

Karisma will join choreographer-film director Farah Khan and actor Arjun Rampal to judge the season four of the dance show which goes on air on Star Plus from October 10.

Sabbas Joseph, Director of Wizcraft which is producing the show, is quoted by a news agency as saying that Karisma has been a successful dancing star and she was at ease when offered the show. "She knows Farah and us well," he added.

Significantly, the announcement of her participation in the show came on her 5th wedding anniversary. The actress is married to Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapur and has a daughter.

Karisma has been looking for a comeback in movies and wants to test acceptance level through the medium of television, sources said.

The shooting will begin at Filmcity from October six.

Karisma’s last releases were Baaz: A Bird in Danger in 2003 and Mere Jeevan Saathi in 2006. She also played the protagonist in ’Karisma: The miracles of destiny’ on Sahara television in 2003.

Apart from this, she was one of the several filmstars who participated in a dance number in Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om .

It’s that time of the year in Bollywood when birthdays of many celebrities fall in quick succession.

By the end of September begins the season of cutting cakes and blowing out birthday candles in Bollywood. In the last one week alone, the industry has witnessed the birthdays of as many as six stars - Kareena Kapoor (Sept 21), Divya Dutta (Sept 25), Dev Anand (Sept 26), Yash Chopra (Sept 27), Lata Mangeshkar (Sept 28) and Ranbir Kapoor (Sept 28).

With the sun presently in Libra constellation in the sky, there are some big Libran birthdays coming up. The first one that comes to mind is that of Amitabh Bachchan (on October 11). By a strange coincidence, the birthday of Rekha falls a day before - that is on October 10. Both the stars exhibit typical Libran qualities - indecisiveness, charisma and patience.

A few days later, Hema Malini will turn a year older (not that she looks her age) on October 16. The shy and reclusive Sunny Deol will celebrate his birthday with family on October 19.

The cake-cutting season will continue with birthdays of other Librans like Sanjay Kapoor (Oct 17), Om Puri (Oct 18) and Shammi Kapoor (Oct 21).

And as the sun moves to the next constellation (Scorpio) in the sky, the month of November will begin with two big birthdays - that of Aishwarya Rai (Nov 1) and Shahrukh Khan (Nov 2).

I bet the confectioners have ample cakes and candles ready.

Saif and his security guards on the charge of manhandling them

Nawab Saif Ali Khan has once again managed to stir up the media against him after his recent bang-bang with a few photo journalists. Bebo’s beau, who was shooting for a film in Patiala has landed into legal trouble after the police filed an FIR against him on charges of threatening to kill and assault.

It all began when photo journalists Sandeep and Mohit tried to click some pictures of the Nawab puttar while he was on location, at a railway station, shooting for an unnamed flick. Saif objected to this following which there was a verbal duel.

The actor then lodged a complaint against the journalists with the railway police station of Patiala. The event then took a wild twist when Saif’s security, allegedly on his orders, assaulted the journos and even snatched their cameras.

Later on Sunday evening, several media persons held a protest against Saif on the Mall Road and demanded action against the actor. Both the journalists lodged a complaint against Saif and his security guards on the charge of manhandling them.

Railway police registered a case against Saif under sections 506 (threatening to kill), 341 (assaulting), 536c (cause of damage) of IPC.

“We will arrest him soon,” asserted Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector General (IG) GJS Grewal.

Well, we certainly hope that Saif doesn’t follow in the footsteps of ‘bang-bang’ king Govinda!

Most Bollywood personalities welcome this new no-smoking policy

From Oct 2, the government will introduce its new no-smoking policy. Most Bollywood personalities like Saif Ali Khan, Shabana Azmi and Akhshaye Khanna welcome this move, but some feel it would be unfair to ban smoking in movies.

Kangana Ranaut: No I don’t think smoking should be banned. But no one should smoke in front of babies. As for the movies, we should be allowed to do what we want to within limits. Nothing should come in the way of our creativity.

Smoking is not the only thing that’s injurious to health. What about noise pollution in pubs? We all have to leave our bodies one day anyway. Some sooner than others. No worries.

Saif Ali Khan: Smoking should be banned indoors in public. But why ban it on screen? It’s just acting and everyone knows it.

Akshaye Khanna: Smoking should be banned in public places, but not in movies.

Shabana Azmi: Yes, smoking should be banned in public spaces, but not on screen. Because smoking could reveal a lot about a character especially if it’s a woman.

And to me endorsement of cigarettes by celebrities is a big no. But banning isn’t the solution. We’ve to create enough awareness so that people would want to give it up on their own, as was the case in the US.

Children should be so aware of the damage done by smoking that they should stop their parents from smoking.

Hema Malini: Yes, smoking should definitely be banned in both - public places and films.

Rakhi Sawant: I agree with Hemaji. Smoking should be banned, that’s all.

Irrfan Khan: In public places, yes! Smoking must be banned since it’s one of the primary sources of air pollution.

Lilette Dubey: I’m against banning smoking in open public places. To smoke is a personal choice, and we are a democracy.

As long as we don’t offend someone by polluting his or her space there’s no harm in smoking. However, on screen it’s a different matter. There’s a huge impressionable audience.

So smoking should definitely be banned on screen. If screen icons are shown smoking, it immediately becomes cool. We’ve to accept the fact that films wield a great influence.

Sudhir Mishra: I’ve just managed to quit smoking. But I think there should be enclosed spaces in public places for smokers.

Neil Mathur: There should be areas marked for smokers in public. But I see no reason to ban smoking from screen. If a script demands a character to smoke, why not? So many vices are depicted. Do we ban all of them?

Arshad Warsi: I can understand the need to ban smoking in public places. But ban smoking in films? No way! And if the government wants us to do what they want, why don’t they fulfil at least 10 percent of their promises?

Amrita Arora: Yeah, it’s better to ban smoking in public and in movies. It’s only fair to people who don’t smoke… not to mention the lungs of those who do.

Malaika Arora: It should be banned in public places. But on screen? I really don’t see the purpose.

Javed Akhtar: Public places? Yes, smoking should be banned. On the screen? No!

Anurag Kashyap: Banning smoking in public places is fine. Ban it by all means. But not in films. For that you’ll have to ban cigarettes altogether.
